[This is a multiple-part series on reaching goals. I'm going to address why you’re struggling and the simple, enjoyable shifts that lead to lasting success.]
We want to believe that we’ll get better results by being more disciplined, more productive, more focused.
We’ve read up about the habits of the highly successful. We’ve consumed an abundance of self-development content.
We’ve tried many, many times to stay consistent with new habits. We’ve woken up at 5am, journaled, meditated, cut out sugar and gluten and alcohol, set goals, measured our steps.
We want to believe that if we could just find the right book, business class, or expert who will give us just the right program, we’ll be saved.
Why hasn’t this worked?
There’s many reasons.
Today I’m going to share one with you. I’ll share one reason at at time in its own post, so we can keep things simple and not get overwhelmed.
(Keep the faith...once all is revealed to you, the solution is so much easier than what you're doing right now.)
REASON ONE WHY YOU'RE STILL STRUGGLING TO REACH YOUR GOALS.
1. Your goal isn’t what you think it is.
What you’re after isn’t a thing. Let me explain.
I want to make more money. I want to travel more with my husband and children. I’d love to upgrade my car. I’d love to see if I could be even more healthy & fit. All of these things are true and worthy goals. But they’re not what I’m really after.
What I’m really after (and so are you), is the way achieving any one of these things will finally allow me to FEEL about myself.
I want you to have all the things you want from your life. The money, the trips, the moment on stage, the office that finally looks just the way you want.
I want a whole bunch of those things for myself as well.
The way you get them though, in a way that’s easier, more enjoyable and far more satisfying is by first realizing you’re not really after a thing.
You’re after a way of feeling about yourself.
The best story I’ve come across that speaks to this concept so clearly & powerfully is the story of Barbara Corcoran.
So, this is the first reason why you’re struggling to get what you want. Your energy is focused on the wrong goal.
Don't freak out and start getting overwhelmed. There's nothing different you need to do right now. This isn't a sprint to success. If you do too much, too fast you're going to run out of gas and revert back to your old habits (the ones you're dying to break free from.)
We're changing our ways for good. In a way that not only brings meaningful success, but allows you to feel great every step of the way. This is a very different approach than what you're used to. And it's so much better.
Here's what to do next.
1. Identify one goal you have right now.
2. Once you know what it is, take a moment to close your eyes and imagine it has happened. You’ve gotten the thing you want most.
How is it you now feel? ____________________
This feeling state you've just identified is now your new goal. Feel free to become obsessed with feeling this way as often as you can.
Here’s what Nicole said after one session together.
"My session with Lori was nothing short of excellent. Her guidance, in just one session, gave me the clarity & courage to make a difficult life decision and launch on a path that is aligned with who I am. I now feel at peace with where I am and the direction I am following. I am so grateful."
